However, I do not have a hard time understanding how a soldier commits these kinds of acts. Although in the pursuit of protecting themselves, soldiers have to take others lives. How many civilians have been killed in the war? It's scary when you train people to protect, by killing others. Trying to maintain a distinction between when it's ok to kill and when it's not ok to kill, I bet becomes more and more difficult. Also, take into consideration the amount of stress and pressure these guys have to deal with on a daily basis. Are they always going to make the best decisions? Look at the incident where a soldier back from the war tried to ram the cockpit door down on a plane (I think this happened last week). The trauma these guys experience everyday eventually takes a toll. I am not condoning what happen and fully support these guys being prosecuted. However, I think it would more beneficial if someone attempted to understand what took place and try to find ways in which to prevent these types of incidences from occurring or at least attempt to minimize them. It is incredibly frustrating and disappointing when our country's reputation is determined by the actions of a few. It is sad when this is what the world will see and use to condone or condemn an entire nation. posted by: tfruge1 (reply) post date: 07.10.06 (11:14 am) Reply to: taralynn You are absolutely correct. These soldiers are under an extreme amount of stress. The sad part is, most of them are between the ages of 18 and 24 and are way too young to know how to handle this kind of pressure. I have a friend in the military and he told me that they need so many troops, they are allowing people who wouldn't usually qualify out of bootcamp and go into these war areas and fight. I think the military is trying so hard to clean up this mess Bush started that it is putting way too much pressure on them, and they are starting to snap. It is time for this meaningless war to come to an end and let these men and women go home and relax before this gets way out of hand. posted by: chuba (reply) post date: 07.10.06 (12:29 pm) No amount of stress gives a person the right to rape an innocent young girl. posted by: tfruge1 (reply) post date: 07.10.06 (12:35 pm) Reply to: chuba The purpose of my post is that point exactly. Which also sets up my next point that it is time for this stupid war to be over and send these soldiers home. |
