DCCC Video That All Republicans Are Griping Over
07.14.06 (7:50 am)   [edit]

Republicans are griping over this new Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) ad that displays flag-draped coffins and a police mug shot of former House Majority Leader Tom Delay, arguing that this ad politicizes war casualties and is an insult to the families of the troops killed in Iraq.

I just don't see what the big deal is.  Oh wait yes I do, it exposes the GOP for what it actually is.  Oh ok I get it now ok.  No, but seriousally I really don't see what all the big fuss is about.  So what if it shows flag-draped coffins.  When I see this image, I get the feeling of patriotism and a devout love for my country even in times of war.  I  definately don't see this as an insult in any way.  When I see the image of Tom Delay, I see the face of a supporter to an administration full of lies and deceit.  I would imagine this is really what the Republican party really is angry about not the flag-draped coffins.  When the mid-term elections roll around in November, all I ask is to remember the things that this administration got us into and decide if you really want someone in office that supports them and would do the exact same thing.

Ok, if the Republicans argument is the ad politicizes war casualties...I say YES it does. It should bring home to the rest of America what the price and cost of war is. We should see more images like this so people have more first hand experience with what we are losing over there. Besides, did not Bush use the NYFD in an ad for his last campaign? Give me a brake. Also, it used to be filmed on the news during Vietnam of the coffins coming off of the planes with a running count of numbers and the names of the soilders. The reason why the Repbuies are upset is because it does hurt their political power becuase the majority of Americans are FED up and want to pull out of Iraq.

On a side note; I think the ad as a whole was very powerful. It brings home the major challenges this country has faced in recent years and at the ends brings home the point that we are a great nation and can do great things. It leaves me feeling hopeful for our future. Just a very good and powerful add and I give it 5 stars!!!!!

Why is there so much anymosity between the Republican and Democratic parties? I think it really shows that democracy as it really should be doesn't exist because of the outright anger and bitterness that is played against eachother. Is this nation really based on being angry and playing games of bitterness against eachother? I believe democracy should have a much more mature way about it than what is done in our nation at this point.

Both sides are polarizing the country so bad, now people are forced to chose sides, now there is now such thing as an independent voter.

True,

The two party system that has evolved in the United States creates a party in charge and an opposition party. This sets up a natural way to determine what the American people want. If you don't like the way one party is handling an issue, then vote in the opposition.

That being said, there are some problems with the system. Since there are only two parties, both parties can ignore the issues that neither party wants to address. These are called third rail issues, if anyone touches them the people will retaliate by voting them out. This makes cutting spending as difficult task as raising taxes is. For a government to function, however, these issues need to be addressed.

The Republicans and Democrats had agreed to agreed on a large number of issues and they worked on some issues without addressing others for quite some time, until Newt Gingrich over took the House in 1994. From that time on Republicans have decided that they didn't need the Democrats to get things done. They have taken the government further and further to the right where they rule from today. The conservatives gradually have been introducing a more and more authoritarian government, where they are now torturing prisoners, spying on citizens and using whatever means necessary to do what they want to do. Democrats are simply trying to win the government back to restore liberty to the American people...

I can not agree with you more. It is a shame how sometimes in order to get votes you must ignore the important issues. This is a problem because nothing gets done to fix them. I place most of the blame on the conservatives for this though. It seems that all they are worried about is getting more of their conservative buddies into office so they can control more and more of our government. The only problem with too much power is it usually seems to back fire on you. I do see the Democratic party making a huge comeback in the near future. This is the beginning of the liberal movement and I don't see it stalling any time soon.
