DCCC Video Yanked Off the Air
07.19.06 (7:15 am)   [edit]

Democrats pulled an Internet ad that showed flag-draped coffins after Republicans and at least two Democrats demanded it be taken down on grounds the image was insensitive and not fit for a political commercial.  The ad can still be seen on my blog under the post of "DCCC Video That All Republicans Are Griping Over".  The ad displays an array of images, including war scenes, pollution and breached levees as well as a photograph of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay in a police mug shot.  The campaign committee replaced the ad with a radio commercial that targets Rep. John Hostetler, R-Ind., for opposing an increase in the minimum wage.  Democrats had featured the video ad for nearly two weeks on the DCCC Web site where it had gone largely unnoticed until Republicans began objecting to it this week.

I still say the ad should have not been taken off the website.  As I said before, the reason the Republicans are taking offense to it is because it portrays the Republican party for what they actually are.  Now with Newt Gengrich (R-Ga.) wanting to enter "WWIII", unfortunately there will be more of those sad flag-draped images to see.

Those in power will always be portrayed as evil by those who wish to be in power. And those who wish to be in power will always maintain their ideas are better. The ruling regime implementing their strategies will be attacked, their choices will be criticized and the cycle will continue. The problem has little to do with Republicans and Democrats, and more to do with personal gain and selfish motives - on both sides. One 'collective party' isn't better than the other when they are both governed by corporate interests. The yanked video is a blatant attack on Republicans and an effort to boost Democrats. While I abhor the decisions Bush has made and would like nothing more than to see him leave office immediately, I do not kid myself that people in the Democratic party are saints and that they will make decisions free of corruption, bribery, extortion and fraud. The only difference is that lately, the Republicans have been *caught*. I find the attempt to portray the already obviously failed Republican party as evil just as insulting as I find the attempt to make the Democratic party a burst of fresh air. They all stink. Greed. Power. Money. This video is nothing but an attempt to manipulate people. It's exactly the reason American politics have such a bad reputation. And it's also exactly the reason many Americans distance themselves from the political arena.
