President Bush To Increase Troop Count in Iraq
07.26.06 (8:08 am)   [edit]

President George W. Bush and Iraq's prime minister said on Tuesday more U.S. and Iraqi troops will go to Baghdad to try to slow violence in talks that exposed gaps between them on the Middle East.  It was unclear how the new plan would affect Pentagon hopes of reducing the U.S. troop deployment in Iraq by year's end, a move with an important political consideration given Republican efforts to maintain control of the U.S. Congress in November elections and the unpopularity of the war among many Americans.  Currently there are 127,000 American troops in Iraq.  Bush and Pentagon officials gave no indication how many U.S. troops might be involved in the Baghdad reinforcement.

It's a good thing this was supposed to be a quick war.  I cannot believe that we are going to deploy more troops to Iraq based on the way the war is going.  I don't understand the reason for this increase in troop count.  I cannot wait for this administration to be out of office so maybe there will be a change to this whole meaningless war.

What I don't understand is that the vast majority of American's are getting fed up with the war in Iraq, but yet President Bush is still sending in more troops to fight.  I personally am sick and tired of hearing about this whole mess.  The rate this is going, we are never going to get out of Iraq.  This administration has become so engulfed with the war in Iraq that they are totally blind to how the majority nation feels about the situation.  Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way.  Who knows?  All I do know is that no American can say that they want more troops to lose their lives.  All that is going to come from this troop increase is more loss of our soldier's lives.  I wish Bush and this horrible excuse for an administration could just for once take off their blindfolds and see this war for what it really is and listen to the people that elected them into office.

The administration is not "totally blind" to how the majority of the nation feels, they are just ignoring the thoughts and feeling of that majority. They are hoping that by sending in MORE troops that the war will turn around and then Bush can show the nation they were wrong for not wanting the war and make things look all better. This of course is never going to happen. The war is not going to turn around and Bush is not, in the end, going to be right when it comes to his views on this war!

Theres roughly 35,000 police officers in new york city. 8,000,000 people live in new york city according to the 2000 census. Thats 228 civilians for every cop. Now, obviously all cops cant be on duty at the same time, theres shifts, so it becomes 500-750 civilians for every cop on duty. ----- Now how about Baghdad, Iraq? Its a city of 4,000,000--mostly single-home residential (new york city is mostly apartment buildings). We sent 150,000 troops to Iraq, 28,000 of whom are on patrol duty at any given moment. If we sent every soldier on patrol to Baghdad, they would still be outnumbered 142 to 1. Theres 28,000,000 people in Iraq. Our soldiers are outnumbered 1,000 to 1 nationwide--able to act as only a police presense at best--but why?!?!?! Why do this to our troops? This I can't tell--but we need to either pull out of Iraq or put in more troops. We wouldnt send a lone-cop down a dark alley in the worst neighborhood of new york city, but we're doing that to our soldiers in a war zone. 18,000 wounded, 2500 dead.

So is chuba a leftist or a liberal? What exactly do you call someone who hopes their country loses a war because he doesn't like the president? The word traitor comes to mind.

I don't see how disagreeing with the president constitutes being a traitor. This is what really ticks me off about conservatives in this country. Anytime a democrat disagrees with the president they are a traitor to the country. Well let me tell you something mr. I am no traitor to this country and nor is Chuba or Alan Colmes or Jack Murtha or any liberal in this country for this matter. I'm really sorry that the person you voted to be the president is disgracing this country so much to where his own party members don't want him to back them in senate and house elections because it probably wouldn't get them elected. Is that how you want your party ran?

Because of this war the U.S. is viewed as the bad guys around the world. Is this the way you want our great country portrayed? Of course it isn't. I just don't see how you can still support this meaningless war with all the evidence that it is unjustifiable and the way its been going. How many American's does it have to take for you conservatives to realize this? Another thing that ticks me off is the idea ya'll have that says we don't support our troops. You can support the troop and be against the war. I should know, this is me. I support the troops, against the war, against the president and his administration but in no way, shape or form am I a traitor to this country. I love the United States and I will stand by it in good and bad, just I'm doing right now in its desparite time of need of new leadership.
