Toby -- yea on the teacher pay! It amazes me that in this country, teachers are not valued members of society, but in foreign countries, they are and are paid exceptionally well.

Then businesses complain about the work force product and their lack of basic skills, reading, writing, and math skills.

Lack of math and science skills can damage a society. Right now, there is a crisis in the teaching field since these teachers are in demand but they get better pay in the private industry.

The other interference is how visual our society has become too.
People prefer to read pictures, view TV/movies/video, and not read.
Newspapers are having a crisis -- they may be a thing of the past in the future.

Most young people going into the workforce, do not know how to write because they are use to using a computer.
They don't know how to count change because they are use to using debit or credit cards.
Computers make it easy to communicate but when a society loses just basic skills, we are all going to be in trouble. Look at history, the Phonecians, the Greeks, the Romans, and how about the Spartans.
New inventions, new ideas, new ways of thinking and politics wiped these societies out.

So, sooner or later, the more visual we get, the less educated people will be over time, the more likely we will fail as a society.

Already, most US NYSE businesses are owned by foreign countries but most people do not care to know that information.

Oh and just one other fact, some people cannot read a face clock since digital clocks make it easy for them to know the time.

Aren't you glad you have a computer and don't have to write out all your blog enteries? LOL

Thank you for the comment. I'm sure my views and your views don't match exactly but I'm with you on the teacher pay raise for certain. Teachers are the most respected but yet underpaid professions in America and that needs to change. It makes no sense all the education these great people get and have nothing to show for it in their pocketbooks. A pay raise would be a great incentive to make teachers strive to be better and continue their great jobs of touching individuals.

AWE.... Your statement, tfuge1, brings a tear to my eye. Luckily I'll have a rich husband that will spoil me so it wouldn't matter how crappy i'll be getting paid as a teacher!! HAHA.
