He must be confirmed by the Armed Service Committee then by the Senate majority. posted by: quickwit (reply) post date: 11.13.06 (12:10 pm) Your posting is somewhat contradictory, well maybe that is not the word I was looking for. I would like to take issue with the first sentence of the second small paragraph.(direct quote) Unlike Donald Rumsfeld, Robert Gates has a lot of experience working with past presidents and in roles of leadership pertaining to national security. Well I would like to know your definition of experience. If you would care to research your story ahead of time instead of waiting for me to correct your mistakes, you would have found that Donald Rumsfeld was overly qualified to do the job of Defense secretary. (Disclaimer: by no means am I saying I think Rumsfeld should be defense secretary, I certainly don’t like his handling of the IRAQ debacle.) However, if you just don’t like the guy like I do you should have said so. Don’t come to me with some lame “He isn’t qualified, BS.” How he is not qualified to do his job is beyond me. How he is not qualified for this job is beyond me. Take a look at his resume. Rumsfeld served as the 13th Secretary of Defense under President Ford from 1975 to 1977. He is both the youngest and the oldest person to have served as U.S. Secretary of Defense. Rumsfeld also served in various positions under President Richard Nixon, as well as four terms in the United States House of Representatives, and as U.S. Ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) (1973–1974).He was an aviator in the U.S. Navy between 1954 and 1957, before transferring to the Reserve. In public life he has also served as an official in numerous federal commissions and councils. The second point that really irritates me is the bigoted hate that your party shows. Gathering from your assessment, you believe Gates is aptly qualified for the job. Why then, are you assuming that the democrats, your party of peace loving, bipartisan politicians, won’t confirm him? Is it that you really know how hateful your beloved party really acts? You’re an idiot. |
