Democrats Bendover Backwards Over Iraq Funding
05.25.07 (1:59 pm)   [edit]

Well it's been a while since I made a post but I figure now is just as good a time as any to sum up how I feel about what the newly elected Congress just did about the Iraq funding bill.  If you haven't already heard, Congress voted on a bill that would fully fund the Iraq war until September.  With this bill comes absolutely no strings attached.  Basically what the Democrats in Congress did was give President Bush a blank check.  I cannot express my disguss and anger with my fellow Democrats enough because of this.

I think someone needs to remind them exacty why they were voted into power.  It was not because of their stance on abortion or their position on gay marriage.  They got voted in for one reason and one reason only.  That reason was to end the war in Iraq.  How can you end the war in Iraq by bending over backwards to a knuckle headed President who won't compromise an inch over his stupid pointless war.

In my opinion if the Democrats want to remain in power, they need to not only listen to what the majority of America wants but grow some balls and carry out our needs.  This is completely disgusing to me.

They tried once to pass a bill with benchmarks, and Bush vetoed it.  Next, they tried to pass a bill that would over-fund the war and with a timeline and Bush vetoed it.  What should have happened was instead of bowing down to Bush was to keep on sending him the same bill.  Let him veto it.  From a political stand point, you can say that it is Bush that is not "supporting the troops".  He is the one not funding them since it is his pen that is vetoing the proper funding.  If he signs it, you win.  If he vetos it til the money runs out, you win.  There are no draw backs in this whatsoever.

Instead of doing the right thing, my fellow Democrats gave in to an unworthy President and completly let down all of the United States.  If this doesn't come to an end soon, our nation as we know it will be completly changed and times will begin to look like they did during Vietnam.

You're absolutely right. I'm disgusted with the Democratic Party right now.

Mike Gravel is right as well. Someone needs to grow a pair of testicles and filibuster until the resolution goes through.

First of all, it's GREAT to have you back with us, Fruge! Boy, I've missed you! Secondly, I feel compelled to clear up a misconception about the Democrats huge win in the last political cycle, and that is, people voted the Democrats in to *stop Bush*, and not necessarily the war. This is what I keep hearing, anyway.. Nevertheless, I join you in your disgust. Remember the sit-ins of yesteryear when college students would just sit down in protest at certain functions and they had to be hauled away by the police? Well, I think it's time for a disgust-in; where we can go to the (unlit) city on the Hill and barf all over Congress, until it's knee deep. I know - yuk! But somebody had to say it, no?

How much longer is it gonna take for the People to realize we don't have any Party representing us anymore!?!

And so much for the 'most ethical [Democratic] party' coming up with a way to protect Murtha from a well-deserved congre-flog. *beam me up, Scotty*

I hope you're planning on staying awhile, Fruge! *smile*

Its nice to be back. Its a shame that it took a political stunt like this from the Democrats to tick me off enough to vent it all out.

I do agree with everything you say. The sole purpose the Democrats were voted into power was to make substantial changes to the way this country was being ran.

They accomplished so much to allow something like this to happen and make the faith of the whole country leave the Democratic party. They got an increase in minimum wage for crying out loud. This stunt that they pulled is only going to harm their chances for the presidency in '08. No one will remember all the good things they did, they will only remember that at a time in need, they let us all down.

It is a real shame that the Democrats did this. For once in my life, I thought that THIS congress would have the guts to stand up, take charge and make a difference. The let down hurts. This bill will shadow the Democratic party for a long time I have a feeling and could cost them the presidency.
