Corruption in U.S. Politics
06.05.07 (9:00 am)   [edit]

If you pay any attention to United States politics, you should have notice one thing in common between the two parties by now.  Even though both parties, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, are at opposite ends of the spectrum one thing joins them both together at the hip: Corruption.

With political parties as power hungry as they are, corruption runs right along side of them.  Why the need to be corrupt?  After thinking about this for some time now, I was able to draw a few conclusions on the issue.

One conclusion I've drawn is quite simple.  Basically, with power comes corruption.  What is the one thing you want when you get power?  More power.  It is that simple.  All these politicians want more of it.  Now at first, most of them follow the lines I believe.  It's not until the power starts to go to their heads before this totatly consumes them, and they begin to be corrupt.

Another conclusion I've drawn is corruption isn't limited to just one party.  If you've ever listened to any sort of political talk radio show, the particular talking head will do its best to make you the listener believe that his party can do no wrong and the other party is worse than satan himself.  Of course, this just isn't the case in America.  Both parties have their corrupt members, and it is our duty as voters to get the corrupt representative out of office.

In a brief conclusion, not all politicians are corrupt.  Some actually do their jobs of serves us the constitutents and do it good.  Just try to keep an eye out for the bad ones.  Corruption hurts us all in the long run.

Corruption has existed since the first man put his foot on out planet ... the thing is that people who are for good do it in silent ways working in the community ... politicians try to do good from its outside sitting high seeing only up to their nose most of the times ...

(wondering if you're going to say anything about your fellow party-mate, Congressman William Jefferson, Democrat-Louisiana)

Well, it was he who gave me the idea for this post. I didn't mention his name because as you know, it makes LA politics look even worse not that it's corrupt as hell already. I mean shit, they voted this guy back in knowing of these allogations that he took brides and hid them in his freezer.

Damn New Orleanians!

They also voted back in another one of my most hated Democratic politicians....Ray Nagin. Mitch should have won!

Your statement that "the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, are at opposite ends of the spectrum" can be contested. I think that Left is Left and Right is Right, but they are both in both Parties. The liberal democrats are much like the liberal republicans and the conservative liberals are not unlike the conservative democrats, and in addition, which is what most miss is that moderate or middle of the roaders in both parties show almost no differences in their position whatever.

What is significant is that both parties are so vehemently opposed to independent or third parties. That is there greatest fear, that somehow another party or independent will split off some of their core constituents.

Let me tell you, there isn't a warm bucket of spits diffence between either of these corrupt to the point of needing to be lanced as a boil on the butt of political parties. They both just take turn bending us over and giving us the 1 finger wave. Remember in America, if you are looking for Justice, that is exactly what you will find, JUST US, and you and I are not in the club. They will take your money alright, but then wave you off like so many fruit flies aroung a hog trough.

True. It might be time for a stronger third party would you say?

I agree. Good writing, good understanding. But, where was this sensibility when the child-molesting tendencies of Congressman Mark Foley were being manipulated for political gain in the last election? And what do you think of the fact that Jefferson's constituents are quite willing to re-elect him even knowing he is most likely a thief? A pretty sad statement about the character of those who would vote for him.

I most certainly agree with you sir. It is pretty sad that the constituents of William Jefferson (a district not too far from mine) would re-elect him knowing of what he had done. It doesn't speak a lot for Louisiana politics at all. It almost makes me ashamed of calling myself a LA resident.

Mark Foley falls under a different catagory of corrupt. In his case, he manulipated the system in order to fulfill his insane sexual needs. If he wasn't in Congress, he would have probably done the same thing. In the corrupt I was talking about above is that corrupt that comes from the power. I can just about see your correlation. Great point.
